Gender Issues in Education
Unfortunately, even within the walls of the classroom where one would hope students stand the best chance of equality, there still exist certain problems. Gender issues in education need to be thoroughly addressed in order to ensure the best education possible for children. Unfortunately, gender issues are pervasive from grammar school through graduate school, and from rural schools to urban schools, but with the right degree of awareness and open-mindedness, we can take these challenges head on and eventually accomplish a lasting solution.
One of the reasons that gender bias and gender related issues still persist in education systems today is because oftentimes teachers aren’t even aware that they are perpetuating these problems. These issues often sneak by within the classroom under a misdirecting cloak. From subtle messages put forth in textbooks to the imbalance of funding for one school program over another, one of the reasons that these gender issues have gone unchecked for so long is because they have simply been accepted for such a long time that few too many people are even aware that they are actually an issue. Therefore, we can pinpoint complacency as one of the leading poisons in the realm of education.
One of the best places to start eliminating such bias in classrooms is with the parents of the students. For one thing, parents should continuously remind their children that they are always deserving of the same rights as everyone else; male or female. When a student is enlightened so, this will help them identify potential problems within their classroom.
